Square in Lima's historic centre and a traditional venue for rallies and demonstrations.
The square was inaugurated in 1921 for the centenary of Peru's independence and is named after independence leader José de San Martín, whose equestrian statue stands at its centre. It is part of the historic centre's Unesco World Heritage site.
