Strait of Hormuz

Strait between Iran and Oman linking the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman.

At its narrowest it is about 40 kilometres wide. It is one of the world's most important trade chokepoints: in normal times around a fifth of the oil consumed worldwide passes through it.
